Enhancing diversity for dental and medical students of all ages.
Our mission is to change the trajectory for underrepresented students to be prepared for the rigor of science, thereby allowing successful matriculation into dental, and medical settings and professions.
Multicultural science curricula and pedagogy elicit critical thinking skills, self-efficacy, and equity for marginalized students; thus, increasing matriculation into dental and medical institutions and closing the gap for disproportionate minority healthcare providers. In addition, the institution will offer a dental assisting program and exposure to dental and medical preparatory courses, and research initiatives.
The Unflexing Institute and Family Care Health Center are collaborating and strengthening the dental assisting workforce. These community partners have established a dental assisting program, designed to assist students in the laboratory, clinical, and other hands-on experiences, which are imperative to the dental profession.
In addition, students will work alongside African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, and white dentists who will serve as role models and mentors. The Family Care Health Center will serve as a learning facility, where students will gain didactic and clinical experience in these under-served communities in which they live and work. Studies have shown that patients respond more positively to treatment when the provider is an individual of the same ethnic group.
The Unflexing Institute Organization recently partnered with the Kappa League - St. Louis Chapter to host a fun and educational workshop for their mentees. This event focused on the science of ice cream making, offering participants a chance to learn while enjoying themselves.
Attendees explored how different ingredients and temperature changes work together to create ice cream, making science both engaging and memorable. The hands-on activity encouraged the mentees to recognize the connection between classroom knowledge and real-world applications. By investigating the science behind ice cream, they learned about chemistry, phase changes, and the significance of temperature in a practical way. In the end, everyone enjoyed their own custom-made ice cream.
This event is just one example of how The Unflexing Institute Organization supports young people in their education and personal growth. In collaboration with the Kappa League - St. Louis Chapter, they continue to create opportunities that inspire learning, foster creativity, and build strong communities.
I understand that each student's situation and needs are unique to them. Tell us more about what you're looking for, and we will get back to you soon with some ideas.
